Community manager wanted

We're looking for a community manager here on Freedom Requires Wings!

We're looking for someone who likes to read, enjoys talking to people online, has good spelling and grammar, and has a good sense of humour.

The position would include:

This is due to the vast amount of work our small team has to cover. Having an extra set of hands that could take on half of this work would really make life a lot easier!

To run the Facebook page, the work would mean reading the new posts on the blog and sharing the link on the page with a short synopsis of what the post is about, and mentioning who it's by. For examples, see the page. You can also share any QUILTBAG-related images and infographics while keeping it tasteful. Publications must not exceed 1 post per 2 hours to avoid losing fans due to spam.

You need to be someone who spends a lot of time on the internet and has a passion for helping out in the LGBT community. You have to just like helping people in general.

You can of course apply to be a writer yourself and do this at the same time. To do this, you will need to answer the following application questions and also answer these questions to apply as a writer.

Here are the questions to apply to be a community manager. Don't worry if you suddenly think you're not good enough. Go for it! If we like you, you could get picked.

  1. What is your name, age, date of birth, nearest city etc.?
  2. Why do you want to be a community manager?
  3. What experience do you have with forums, social networks, answering inquiries etc.?
  4. Do you run any Facebook fan-pages? If so, which ones? (Links are your friends here!)
  5. Send us all your contact details (Skype, Facebook profile, Twitter profile... even MySpace if you're a dinosaur! But do not send us any phone numbers or addresses please!)

Send the above questions and answers to apply@freedomrequireswings.com

We look forward to hearing from you!

Good luck!

Sex columnist wanted

posted Aug 29, 2012, 3:08 PM by Patrick McCarthy   [ updated Feb 3, 2014, 2:33 AM ]

We're looking for a weekly or monthly sex columnist to write for Freedom Requires Wings. It's important to talk about sex and safe sex in the QUILTBAG community because schools around the world cover nothing but heterosexual sex-education. They don't educate teenagers about same-sex relationships or asexuality and this is important for teenagers who are growing and exploring more.

We could start out on a monthly basis and eventually start asking readers to submit their questions about love and sex. If we then receive enough material to move you to weekly postings, you'll need to be able to adapt to post more frequently.

Here are our terms and conditions:
  1. You have to have good grammar and spelling. This is vital. Even things like a lowercase i can drive some people around the bend!
  2. You have to be able to make yourself clearly understood.
  3. You must be non-judgmental and you need to be accepting of the fact that teenagers have sex. You also need to believe in contraception and know about STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases).
  4. It's imperative that you have a broad knowledge of sexual and romantic orientations (from gay to demisexual-lithromantic) and that you understand them.
  5. You'll need to be open to the possibility of posting once a week, on a day of your choice. There's nothing to stop you from working steadily on your article through the week and posting it when it's due. It's easy enough to stick to a once-a-week schedule. You can of course, write more often than once a week, there's nothing stopping you, just let us know later on.
  6. Your posts have to come to approximately 1,000 - 2,500 words each. For an idea of length, see posts on the blog.
  7. If you're thinking of leaving the blog 2 months down the line, don't bother applying. We're looking for people who are interested in keeping this up and who want to be part of a team, writing about QUILTBAG sexual education issues and answering readers questions about love and sex. You need to have the motivation to produce at least one post a week if we require it later on.
